A History of the Saskatoon Blitz
Our events business caters & aims to entertain “geeks” and pop culture enthusiasts alike. Hailing from Saskatchewan we are for the fans, by the fans! Founded in 2009 by Laura Petrishen-Ha, we have adapted from anime events, to a multitude of nerd themed events and other endevours! Joining the Canadian “Comic Con” circuit in 2011 with Saskatoon Anime Blitz and Comic Spectacle (now known as Saskatoon Blitz), we aim to bring forth this annual NERDFEST for Saskatoonians, and our neighboring fans, for many years to come!
Though our origins were in anime, our interests and convention represent all sectors (sci-fi, gaming, comics, fantasy, etc.) and genres of nerdom! We put on regular events, mini-cons, costume balls, and free screenings to entertain our supporters. Our goal is to bring Saskatchewan’s “geek/nerd” community annual events to enjoy—right in our own back yard!! Our business also sponsors a non-profit “club” for screenings, discussions and comradeship.
We feel it is important to grow as business, but also keep our goals tied to the community. We are entering our 4th year of events, and will host our third Saskatoon Blitz Comic & Pop Culture Convention. Saskatoon Blitz is a local convention for comic, anime, gaming, sci-fi, etc. fans alike! This 3 day convention will be packed with celebrity and featured guests, vendors, artists, panels, games, a concert, a masquerade and more. This convention is intended to cater to approximately 2500 guests, and will be largest of its kind in our province to date, and nearly double the size of last year’s BLITZ!!
